Junk in the Trunk

Got Junk?Well it appears that my weekend trip to Costco yielded some additional surprise findings, this latest one coming in the form of an article about Brian Scudamore, founder of 1-800-GOT-JUNK. I first learned about the company a few months ago when I happened to see a 1-800-GOT-JUNK truck parked outside my condominium complex.

So here’s the funny part, if you read the Costco Connection article (click on the image), you get a sense of Scudamore’s dedication to hiring quality individuals, creating a quality work environment, and motivating his employees to strive to be the best and provide great service (as a side note, the article actually mentions that Scudamore was named North America’s best boss to work for by Winning Workplaces and Fortune Small Business magazine). Yet my experience with the company was pretty normal, nothing extraordinary or great. Actually, the guys that showed up at my condo appeared to be a little reluctant to get rid of my junk; maybe it was the 600 cubic feet of drywall that needed to be disposed of?

Regardless, Brian Scudamore’s success story is quite interesting and inspiring, so I would strongly recommend that you check it out. What’s especially impressive is the fact that he started off with $700 and bootstrapped his way to an international, multimillion dollar company through a solid commitment to his vision of creating the ‘FedEx’ of junk removal.

Sincerely,
The Closet Entrepreneur
