How Fast Is Your Sonata?
On May 26th, a Goodyear (Az) man was arrested at his home on four counts of excessive speeding, reckless driving, and endangerment. His Hyundai Sonata was clocked at 147 mph on the Loop 101 between Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard in Scottsdale (Az). The question on everyone’s mind: How did he get a Sonata to go that fast?
I don’t know about you, but 147 mph in a sedan on stock wheels is completely insane! Although I’m willing to bet that someone at Hyundai must be smiling.
Sincerely,

Wow! That is amazingly fast! I can’t imagine the distance he would have had to travel to gain that much momentum. In a rental no less! Where has this guy been anyways and why did he rent a car if he lives in Goodyear? Weird!

Seriously! The only way I could ever reach that speed is if I drove my car off a cliff! Then again, it’s an xB so you would think that the terminal velocity of a brick on wheels might keep me from breaking the 120mph barrier.

Man, Hyundai should almost be proud of this guy and give him an endorsement. He could become Hyundai’s Jared.

My Sonata hit an indicated 147 one night as I drove desperate to get to the next rest area and I might add it was still in fourth gear. I was almost to the exit by then so I didn’t get to see when it’d go into fifth. By the way, the cop’s wrong about the tires. All Sonatas have V rated tires, good for 149 sustained.
