Arizona is the Hot Spot for Entrepreneurs!

Roosevelt Lake

Although the news has been out for a few months, I just found out that Entrepreneur.com has voted Arizona the place to be for entrepreneurs for the second year in a row. Admittedly, as a native Arizonan there’s a bit of pride in it for me. The 2006 annual report lists the following:

  • States – Arizona is #1 overall for entrepreneurs
  • Large Cities – Phoenix-Mesa is #1 overall for entrepreneurs
  • Small Cities – Yuma is #3 overall for entrepreneurs
  • Mid-Size Cities – Tucson is #5 overall for entrepreneurs
  • Counties – Maricopa is #6 overall for entrepreneurs

According to Entrepreneur.com’s Hot Cities 2006 article, a California exodus of entrepreneurs is one of the major contributors to the growth of Arizona’s business climate. My blog is another reason, just kidding. 🙂 Thankfully, the real estate market has cooled off a bit, and homes are becoming a little more affordable for migrating entrepreneurs. So who knows, maybe Arizona will be #1 for a third year in a row in 2007.

  1. Great, now Phoenix can get more polluted. I lived here for three years in the 90s and it was bad then. In my occasional trips back, I have noticed the smog situation getting worse in the valley.

Well city planners actually estimate that Tucson, Phoenix, and Prescott will all be connected by 2040. Then take into account that the Valley is only 1100 feet above sea level and there’s so much atmosphere to help trap pollution, that it’s imperative that Phoenix begins thinking about measures to take pollution into account. Who knows, maybe California will rub off on us and we’ll start looking into greenhouse gas cuts. 🙂

  3. Hey, that’s pretty cool. I wonder what we did to become a “Hot Spot”. It does kind of raise the stakes, too, like if you’ve chosen the path of entrepreneurship, you’d better do awesome because you’re in the world’s #1 hot spot!

I know, I hope I didn’t just jinx every entrepreneur in Arizona. 🙂
